The Creed

In our modern, western world we are still free to think the way we want. And that's what we do. However, we must ask if what we think is reasonable or if we have a sufficient foundation for our convictions.

Here are eight of the most wellknown beliefs:
  1. I believe we can be 100% sure that God does not exist
  2. I believe I am able to determine what is right and wrong for myself
  3. I believe that science makes faith in God irrelevant
  4. I believe the random chemical reactions in our brain can be trusted
  5. I believe it is absolutely true that there is no absolute truth
  6. I believe that the laws of nature will never change
  7. I believe that the immaterial laws of logic came from a material source
  8. I believe everything is relative

This blog wants to help people to understand that every single point of this creed can't be true. Feel free to react to one of the posts, or email me: alexvannes@gmail.com. I will always try to give you an answer.

Point 1 "I believe we can be 100% sure that God does not exist"

This faith statement cannot be true because it is not rational. You need to have full insight into all reality in order to make such absolute claims. In other words: to be absolutely sure that there is no God, you need to travel through the complete universe and through all other possible universes and beyond in order to know all there is to know. And since it is impossible to know everything, nobody can say for sure that there is no God. You can only believe there is no God.

So, rational, honest atheists do not exist.

Point 2 "I believe I am able to decide what is right and wrong for myself"

This can’t be true, because morality can differ from man to man, from society to society and from period to period. What was seen as wrong yesterday, may be seen as good today and the other way around. Without an absolute Lawgiver, moral judgments are just subjective opinions, with which your neighbour may or may not agree. Without the God of the Bible there is no objective and absolute standard for morality. This means that an objective science tells us what is, not what morally ought to be.

If we are nothing more than bags of stardust, there is no way we could judge something morally wrong or right.

Dostoyevski: “If there is no God, everything is permitted”

Point 3 "I believe that science makes faith in God irrelevant"

This can't be true, because science can only be done on the basis of absolute truth, absolute logic and the uniformity of nature. These three things cannot exists without God.

Science and faith in God do therefore not contradict eachother. On the contrary, science must assume the existence of God to do science in the first place. (See also point 6 and 7)

Point 4 " believe the random chemical reactions in our brain can be trusted"

This can’t be true, because if we were the product of unguided, unwanted and pure chance evolutionary processes, our thoughts would be nothing more than chemical reactions. The only difference with a bottle of coke would be that the coke has a better taste. Not even the complexity of our brains could be the reason for trusting our reasoning

Without the Creator, who made our brain and guarantees us the potential to use and trust our thinking processes, no man could trust his own thinking. The only thing he could do is to prove the right functioning of his thinking by using his thinking. Which of course is circular reasoning and therefore irrational.

Point 5 "I believe it is absolute true that there is no absolute truth"

This can’t be true, because the moment you make that statement you are contradicting yourself and violating the laws of logic. This is an absolute truth claim about truth and is a self-defeating statement.

Outside of God there is no source of absolute truth, because only God can be independant absolute source. The saying that everybody has his own truth, really means that everybody has his own opinion.

To think about: Isn't it strange that, although many deny the existance of absolute truth, everybody lives by absolutes?

Point 6 "I believe the laws of nature will remain unchanged forever"

This can’t be true, because there is no guarantee that what happened in the past will always happen in the future in a chance universe. The fact that the sun has risen innumerable times is no guarantee that it will rise tomorrow. The past cannot prove the future. It is an untenable argument that, due to some future cosmic evant, the mass of the earth could never change.

Only the God of the Bible, the Creator can secure the stability and functioning of His Creation.

Point 7 "I believe the immaterial laws of logic came from a material source"

This can’t be true, because the immaterial laws of logic must have been there before matter existed, for the simple reason that matter is governed by the laws of logic. These laws are prescriptive, not descriptive.

The laws of logic are immaterial, unchanging and omnipresent. The materialistic worldview has no place for immaterial and unchanging things.

Only the God of the Bible is immaterial, unchanging and omnipresent. He is therefore the necessary source of logic. We all use logic and without it science is not possible.

Point 8 "I believe everything is relative"

This can’t be true, because then that statement itself would also be relative, but it is an absolute claim. This is, therefore, a self-defeating statement proving itself to be false.

CONCLUSION

The christian worldview starts with the existence of God and the fact that He has spoken. Outside of God there is no ground for believing in truth, morality, the conformity of nature, the dignity of man, logic or the ability to reason. The moment a person believes in them, he shows that he cannot logically deny God's existence.

Therefore the christian worldview is the only possible worldview and is true because of the impossibility of the contrary. And that is why non-believers constantly have to borrow from the christian worldview:

That is the reason the Bible says that denying that God does exist, is foolishness.

It is therefore time to repent and acknowledge Him as God.

The Best News Ever

As we have seen there is no rational basis for truth, morality, logic, reasoning and not even for the dignity of man without God.

The Bible says we all know that God exists, but that we suppress that knowledge in unrighteousness. That means we deny what we know. This attitude of denial makes us very guilty.

We deny the truth because we don't want God to be there or rule our lives. But God is still God, whether we like it or not.

But God provided in a wonderful solution. A solution that religion can never give us. Here it is:
